12.17.13 Holiday Heroes 2013
Wender Weis Foundation for Children (WWFC) is pleased to announce that its Fourth Annual Holiday Heroes celebration held on Monday, December 9, 2013 raised more than $100,000 to benefit eight Bay Area children’s organizations. In addition, WWFC proudly hosted 325 children from the benefiting charities for the grand holiday event at AT&T Park, and broke Holiday Heroes’ attendance records overall with nearly 1,400 guests including families, donors, and local athletes.
Holiday Heroes attendees mingled and noshed on ballpark fare, enjoyed rare behind-the-scenes access to AT&T Park, including the San Francisco Giants’ dugout and batting tunnels, and celebrated the holiday season with an array of activities and games such as holiday cookie decorating, teddy bear stuffing, face painting, photo/video booths, arts and crafts, and arcade games. Many attendees also had the chance to view the SF Giants’ two World Series Trophies.
Current and former Bay Area athletes that attended Holiday Heroes included San Francisco Giants’ relief pitcher George Kontos; NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana; Oakland Raiders’ Cornerback & Special Teams Player Taiwan Jones; San Jose Earthquakes’ player Alan Gordon; U.S. figure skater and Olympic Gold Medalist Kristi Yamaguchi; U.S. hockey player, Olympian, and Stanley Cup Champion Bret Hedican; and U.S. skier and Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley.
“It was so gratifying to see the children’s faces light up as they met their favorite local sports heroes, who were each extremely caring, warm, and encouraging as they interacted with the kids,” said Amy Wender-Hoch, WWFC founder. “In addition, our generous sponsors provided activities and gifts for everyone who that helped create a one-of-a-kind experience and special holiday memories that will last a lifetime. I am very grateful and honored that so many came out to support Bay Area kids and help raise funds for the ultimate holiday gift – access to our community’s resources that help children grow their confidence and self-esteem so they can ultimately realize their dreams.”
WWFC also presented the foundation’s first-ever Inspiration Award to Jennifer and Joe Montana at the event, in honor of the couple’s philanthropic efforts and positive impact on the community through the Four Rings Montana Family Foundation.
Proceeds for this year’s Holiday Heroes will benefit the Junior Giants Baseball Program, 49ers Foundation, Holy Family Day Home, Raphael House, San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center, Always Dream Foundation, Fit Kids, and Four Rings Montana Family Foundation.
